About the upcoming 19th OEA-Awards
The Omaha Entertainment & Arts Awards is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing and celebrating local artists, musicians and performers.
Nominees to the 19th Annual Omaha Entertainment & Arts Awards performed and exhibited work between Sept. 1, 2023, and Aug. 31, 2024. Review committees vetted and confirmed eligible nominees submitted by popular vote across 58 award categories in an open-ended survey that closed on Aug. 31. This year, we received more than 2,615 public nomination ballots. Our four special honor categories are selected by the OEAA board of directors.
A discount code for nominee tickets can be obtained by emailing the OEAA board of directors at oea.awards@gmail.com.
Members of the OEAA Academy of Visual Arts, Music and Performing Arts will select trophy winners by ballot delivered by email later this week. The OEAA academies consist of more than 230 local visual art, music and performing arts professionals, journalists and community members. For more information about public nominations and academy voting, please visit our FAQ page.
This year’s award show will be hosted by the five-time OEAA winning comedy group The Weisenheimers. They will be accompanied by a nominated cover band, Parfait, serving as house band for the evening. Other performers will be announced soon.
New this year, our annual cultural stewardship award has been renamed as the “John Heaston Award for Cultural Stewardship” in tribute to our longest-serving and founding board member. John Heaston was founding editor and publisher of The Omaha Reader. He was also the first recipient of our annual cultural stewardship award in 2020.
The OEAA board of directors is actively seeking names of individuals from local arts communities to honor in our annual in memoriam segment. You can submit names for inclusion via email to the OEAA board of directors at oea.awards@gmail.com. A spreadsheet of our current list of names for inclusion can be viewed via this Google Sheets link.
The theme for this year is “Celebrating Omaha’s Imagination,” as we lean into the creative legacy that Heaston left to Omaha in the form of our nonprofit and numerous other cultural initiatives – including the historic host venue for the 19th OEA-Awards. Heaston was instrumental in protecting Sokol Auditorium from threat of demolition in 1990, two decades before its current rebranded and renovated form (now known as The Admiral, under the management of 1% Productions).
We could not do this without community support. If you would like to sponsor the awards show and our programming, please get in touch! Check out our sponsor packet for more details. Contact the OEAA board by email at oea.awards@gmail.com to learn more.
Congrats again to all of the nominees, and thank you to our sponsors and community partners!
